Time: 1pm-4pm
Interested in learning more about the mechanics of sculpture construction? Participate in this workshop with esteemed WVU Sculpture Professor Alison Helm. Using pre-cut wood forms, students will assemble their own abstract mini sculptures using pegs, screws, dowels, and drills. Students will then be able to paint their creations, while learning about Helm’s personal color theory. Helm creates sculptures by manipulating a variety of media, including wood, stone, steel, glass and even neon. Her juxtaposition of natural forms with man-made materials presents a tension in both form and content, reinforced at times with color, weight, or balance. While in the workshop, students will be able to study Helm’s recent stainless steel art bench “Grounded in a Cloud,” recently installed in the Clay Center’s Sculpture Garden.
Ages 14 and up. Limited space available; advanced registration required. Questions? Please call our Box Office at 304-561-3570 or email JulietArtMuseum@theclaycenter.org.
